|ASCP Introduces Antibiotic Stewardship CE for both Nurses and Pharmacists.|
Frank Grosso, RPh
What better way to improve pharmacist/nurse collaboration and efficiency than to share the same Antibiotic Stewardship training to meet the new Medicare LTC Requirements of Participation and be ready for the revised CMS survey requirements?
That’s what ASCP did for our members…
ASCP recently partnered with the American Association of Directors of Nursing Services (AADNS) on an antibiotic stewardship virtual workshop, a program designed for front-line and administrative nursing facility staff. AADNS is a non-profit organization dedicated to leading and empowering DONs/DNSs. AADNS is the sister association of the American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination (AANAC). AANAC is a non-profit organization representing more than 14,700 long-term care nurses and professionals who provide quality care for nursing home residents across the nation and who are integral in the RAI/MDS process. We welcomed the opportunity to partner with AADNS to coordinate our message and enhance the professional relationship between pharmacists and nursing facility staff.
The workshop modules are co-presented by a senior care pharmacist, ASCP member Stacey J. Ranucci, RPh, BCGP, CDE, CDOE, and a nurse, Amy Franklin RN, RAC-MT, DNS-MT, QCP-MT. Course faculty discuss the seven elements of infection prevention and control as outlined in federal regulation F881. Participants will learn how to establish a committed ASP interdisciplinary team, identify quality indicators for a QAPI program, and recognize medication-related problems relevant to the principles of ASP.
The online program is accredited to provide 6 hours of continuing pharmacy and nursing education. Prepare for antimicrobial stewardship in LTC by showing your customer that your professional society, ASCP, has partnered with nurses. I encourage you to be prepared when your customer asks about the ASCP/AADNS program. Be proactive: take the course now and recommend that your customers complete the program too.
