Shared Challenges, Common Goals
Included in this issue of TCP is the 1996 Annual Report of ASCP
and the ASCP Foundation. I think you'll find this report interesting
and informative, especially when considered in light of the shared
challenges facing the society and its members.
ASCP and the individual members who comprise it are striving to
succeed in the same mercurial climate: one of continual struggle,
adjustment, and uncertainty; a climate of doing more, better,
and faster with less-and with no roadmaps and few signposts to
point the way. Constant innovation is the order of the day, and
traditional sources of revenue are no longer enough to ensure
success.
Faced with the same basic challenges, ASCP members and the society
are making the same sorts of investments today to achieve continued
success tomorrow.
Just as ASCP members are investing their energy and resources
to acquire a higher level of clinical skills and competency, ASCP
is investing in new tools and programs to prepare them for the
quality- and outcomes-driven future.
The Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Certification Program will help
ASCP members set themselves apart from the pack, and at the same
time expand the society's reach far beyond its traditional sphere
to include broader segments of pharmacy and health care.
Another groundbreaking ASCP initiative to define best-practice
standards for long-term care pharmacy will soon yield benchmarking
tools to monitor and quantify your clinical impact and enhance
your clout in a tough, volatile marketplace.
You know the future lies in demonstrating your ability to make
a real difference in overall patient outcomes and health care
costs; so does ASCP. That's why we've launched the Fleetwood Project,
arguably the most ambitious research initiative ever undertaken
by any pharmacy organization. This crucial initiative has already
yielded powerful ammunition to take to the policy and reimbursement
bargaining tables. Look for even more in 1997.
Consultant pharmacists are investing in the information technologies
and integrated data systems that are fast becoming the very linchpin
of professional success. So is ASCP. Last year the society introduced
new Internet capabilities, new legislative and regulatory tracking
systems, and new programs to maximize their usefulness.
These are just a few of the ways ASCP is working to help you stay
ahead of the curve.
ASCP's activities, though diverse, all have a single purpose:
to help consultant pharmacists succeed, wherever their professional
endeavors lead. In the final analysis, your challenges are our
challenges. Your successes are our successes. Consultant pharmacists'
future and ASCP's future aren't just closely intertwined-they're
one and the same.
