ASCP recently contracted with Infotrieve, a document retrieval company, to provide its service to members at discounted rates. ASCP members who wish to obtain a copy of an article from any journal, including The Consultant Pharmacist, will be able to contact Infotrieve, and provide the article citation, and the service will locate the article and send the member a copy.
ASCP members may sign up for this service at the time they place their first request for an article-there is no need to enroll in advance. In order to qualify for the discount, ASCP members must provide their membership number at the time the article is requested. Orders may be submitted directly to Infotrieve by mail, e-mail, or fax.
Fax/Mail Requests. In order to streamline the Infotrieve service, ASCP has developed a fax form that members can complete and submit to Infotrieve. This form is available on ASCP's FastFAX (800-707-2727, Document #861). Members should complete the form, include the article citation(s) that are being requested, and then mail or fax to Infotrieve at 310-208-5971.
E-mail Requests. An e-mail request for an article should contain the same information outlined in the FAX order form. It is important to include ASCP member numbers in the e-mail in order to obtain the ASCP member discount. Send e-mail requests to orders@infotrieve.com.
ASCP Web Page. In addition, the ASCP Web page will have a link to the Infotrieve Web page. Orders can be submitted at the Infotrieve Web site. The price for the retrieval service includes the fee for the document retrieval service, plus the copyright fee charged by the publisher of the journal. Infotrieve will send customers a monthly invoice for documents provided, listing the copyright fees separately. Articles will be copied and sent by first class mail. Most orders are mailed within one to two business days of order receipt.
If the member prefers to have the articles sent by Federal Express, UPS, Airborne, or DHL, Infotrieve can charge the shipping costs to the customer's shipping account number. Members who need articles right away can request rush service for an additional fee.
ASCP members who have questions about this service may contact Scott Ahlberg, vice president of Infotrieve, at 800-422-4633,
by e-mail at orders@infotrieve.com, or on the Web at www.infotrieve.com.
ASCP's first annual State Chapter Member-Get-A-Member campaign, which was launched in May, resulted in recruitment of 179 new members as of the end of August-and there is still time for members to participate before the closing date of October 31.
Individual members or state chapters who recruit pharmacists from any long-term care setting receive awards ranging from a free, pre-paid phone card (for each person who recruits a new member) to an ASCP Annual Meeting package worth up to $500 (for the top overall recruiter).
Special kits with pocket membership applications, reasons to join, tips on recruiting, and other pertinent information are available for members who wish to participate. To receive a Member-Get-A-Member kit, call the ASCP Customer Service Center at 800-355-2727.
Rewards are available throughout the year for all members recruiting members who put their name on the sponsorship line of an ASCP application and pass it on to a pharmacist, friend, or colleague. When the colleague joins the society, the recruiting member receives a $5 coupon good toward the purchase of selected ASCP products, meeting registration or membership renewal fees.
