ABOUT THE ARTIST

About the artist: Miriam Rothchild, a native of Washington, D.C., began to take painting lessons after completing a 20-year career in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. This month's cover, "Pride and Prejudice," is a watercolor depiction of an actual landscape in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains, with the ghostly figures of two of Jane Austen's best-known literary characters superimposed on the scene.
