Antipsychotics and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors for the Treatment of Behavioral Disturbances in Dementia of the Alzheimer Type: A Review of Clinical Data

An estimated 70%-90% of Alzheimer's disease patients exhibit aggressiveness or other behavioral symptoms. In this review of current literature, Pollock et al. discuss the pharmacokinetics, tolerability, and comparative efficacy of conventional versus atypical antipsychotics and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors for control of Alzheimer's-related behavioral disturbances.

Pneumonia continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among nursing facility residents. This broad literature review is designed to provide current information on the etiology of nursing home-acquired pneumonia (NHAP), predisposing factors and risk assessment strategies; changing patterns of microbial resistance; immunization and optimal use of B-lactam, macrolide, and fluoroquinolone antibiotics; and other issues in NHAP prevention and treatment.
