As many as 80% of elderly nursing facility residents have some form of urinary incontinence, a disorder that generates more than $13 billion in total treatment costs each year in the United States alone. Here we’ll explore the three main types of incontinence and current strategies for pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment.
HIV in the Elderly: Current Treatment Strategies
HIV infection and AIDS remain underdetected, underdiagnosed, and undertreated among the elderly. This article will discuss current strategies for pharmacologic management of HIV disease, including use of dual- and triple-combination regimens, as well as the psychosocial challenges faced by senior living with HIV/AIDS.
