  • Medicare legislation -- original Conditions of Participation for Pharmaceutical Services sets the stage for change with first requirement for the consultant pharmacist

1966

  • George Archambault, “the father of consultant pharmacy,” delivers “Crisis in Nursing Homes” lecture at Northeastern University

1969

  • ASCP incorporated as a nonprofit organization
  • First issue of ASCP Update publishes
  • First annual ASCP Annual Meeting hosted in Montreal, QC

1971

  • First Board of Directors elected and first set of Bylaws approved

1974

  • State chapters have first regional meetings

1976

  • Membership reaches 1,000

1979

  • First ASCP Mid-Year Conference in New York, NY

1982

  • ASCP Research and Education Foundation is established
  • First publication of The Consultant Pharmacist

1992

  • ASCP and ASCP Foundation jointly purchase a new home at 1321 Duke Street, Alexandria, Virginia. 

1994

  • National Consultant Pharmacist Week starts
  • Fist annual MD-ASCP Mid-Atlantic Conference in Baltimore, MD

1997

  • Creation and incorporation of Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP)

1998

  • ASCP launches Geriatric Pharmacy Review (GPR) online courseware

2002

  • ASCP forms a partnership with MED-PASS, Inc

2006

  • ASCP Research and Education Foundation changes name to ASCP Foundation
  • The Consultant Pharmacist is indexed by the National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE

2009

  • ASCP joins the world of social media

2010

  • ASCP joins Pharmacy e-HIT [health information technology] Collaborative as one of nine charter members.
  • ASCP adopts new visual/branding standards, including redesign of The Consultant Pharmacist. 

2011

  • ASCP launches new Web site, and an in-house learning site, the Professional Development CEnter (CEnter)

2012

  • Inagural issue of ASCP Brief e-newsletter
