On March 14, 2012, ASCP members contacted more than 60 lawmakers in 12 states as part of the second annual Virtual Lobby Day. Participating pharmacists used email, phone calls, and social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook to reach their elected officials in Washington.
Participants raised a variety of issues related to improving health care, especially the role consultant pharmacists play in reducing costs and improving outcomes. ASCP members expressed their support for two bills currently pending on Capitol Hill (S. 274 and H.R. 819) that would expand access for seniors to pharmacist-delivered medication therapy management services. Members also raised concerns about preserving nursing home residents’ timely access to controlled medications.
