Target Audience:
This activity has been designed for senior care pharmacists involved in review or design of medication regimens that may involve drugs metabolized via the CYP2D6 enzyme.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the cytochrome P450 system and its impact on drug metabolism, specifically in the older adult
  • Identify common genetic polymorphisms of the CYP2D6 enzyme that can impact chronic diseases and therapeutic effect of medications
  • Evaluate common and clinically significant CYP2D6-related drug interactions
  • Apply principles discussed to modify and optimize therapeutic regimens in geriatric patient cases
