|Happy Holidays from ASCP|
Frank Grosso, RPh
With the holidays upon us and 2017 drawing to a close, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the past year and look forward to the New Year ahead.
First, I’d like to thank you for all you have done to help our Society grow and thrive. It’s YOU, our members, who help support our initiatives and meetings.
2017 was an incredible year of growth and success. The 2017 ASCP Forum, hosted May 1-3 2017, provided a comprehensive overview of legislative, regulatory, and technology-related issues impacting pharmacists. Legislators, regulatory officials, industry leaders, software vendors, and others offered their insights and expertise on issues such as the IMPACT Act, medical reconciliation, and transitions of care. Then in November 2017, the 2017 Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Kissimmee, Florida was attended by nearly 1,200 pharmacists, pharmacy students, and vendors with a common goal: improving the lives of older adults through medication management.
In addition to our two national meetings, we hosted three regional meetings, dozens of chapter meetings, and two Geriatric Pharmacist Boot Camps across the country. We also had an active legislative year, with many regulatory changes and implementations. ASCP attentively stayed on top of all these updates, and provided feedback to agencies, as well as recaps for you, our members. In 2017, we also debuted ASCP’s new suite of tools for entrepreneurial pharmacists, SenioRx Solutions. SenioRx Solutions includes ASCP’s new Senior Care Pharmacist Directory, a new business skills program, focus groups, and more.
As we move into 2018, SenioRx Solutions will continue to grow and expand, as will many new ASCP programs and initiatives. We are excited to introduce new plans thanks to a generous grant from the ASCP Foundation, including our new Senior Care Seminar Series, a series of advanced clinical webinars on the treatment and monitoring of medication needs in older adults, regardless of practice setting. We also already have a full calendar of regional and national events planned for 2018. Mark your calendars now!
ASCP has been educating pharmacy professionals on how to best serve the unique medication needs of older adults since 1969. —That’s almost 50 years of geriatric pharmacotherapy expertise. As we move into 2018, please let us know how we can continue to help you be the best senior care pharmacist.
Wishing you a happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
