About the BCGP CredentialIn 1997, ASCP created the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP), a nonprofit corporation autonomous from ASCP, to develop and oversee the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist credential. In 2017, the credential moved to the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS), making the Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (BCGP) credential the third largest pharmacy specialty. ASCP is approved by BPS as a provider for the recertification of BCGP. Why Become Board Certified in Geriatrics?Board certification is recognized as an important part of the quality assurance process. Certification in geriatric pharmacy shows that a pharmacist understands the complex medication needs of older adults with multiple comorbidities and geriatric syndromes. Pharmacists with the BCGP credential have reported a number of benefits, including qualification for expanded scope of practice, salary increase, promotion, and new job opportunities. This practice exam was developed in conjunction with the ASCP Education Advisory Council preparing pharmacists to apply the knowledge of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of medications in older adults to optimize therapeutic outcomes.You have unlimited attempts to take the exam. There is no CPE credit for this exam. 2024 Geriatric Pharmacist Boot Camp: Home Study Package Work through our dynamic courses in preparation for the BPS examination. Each course contains slide handouts, a medication reference chart, the course recording and a post-test to practice your knowledge attainment. Earn 20+ credit hours on completion of the package. Maintaining Your BCGP CredentialBCGP credentialed pharmacists must accrue 100 recertification credits every 7 years. ASCP offers more than 45 BCGP recertification credits every year to keep you on the right path. Each activity centers solely on medically complex older adults and highlights important concepts in addressing the unique medication needs of geriatric patients.
