We are here for you.

Every year we witness the devastating and catastrophic effects disasters can have on our communities. On behalf of myself, ASCP’s leadership, and staff, I want to offer my thoughts and deepest sympathies to all affected. Below are links to resources that may be helpful to those in affected areas and for others who want to provide aid. We will try to keep this updated as quickly as possible.

Our Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19) Preparation and Support

ASCP pharmacists represent a critical line of defense to our nation’s medically complex and older adult patients. Many of our patients live on congregate care environments. This makes them especially vulnerable to infectious diseases. Some of the reactions to COVID-19 are concerning. Our pharmacists and pharmacies provide important medication management services to skilled nursing and assisted living facilities routinely. There is concern that any personnel moving from location to location could contribute to a potential spread of infection. CMS has issued its strongest guidance regarding visitors and non-essential personnel for entrance into long-term care facilities.

Please find some of our resources below and let us know how we can continue to support you as a valued senior care pharmacist.

FDA is already implementing contingency plans for 23 medications identified as likely to be shorted during the COVID-19 response. Many of these are antibiotics used for secondary infections. Join ASCP for the latest update on the potential for shortages, as well as any insight into which medications could be implicated. One of the tools that may be at the disposal of pharmacists will be therapeutic interchange in the case of shortages. We will discuss how this will work and what steps pharmacies and pharmacists can take to be prepared.
