|Insomnia in the Elderly|
Insomnia is a prevalent condition in the elderly. While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is always preferred as first line management, patients often require medication therapy leading to a constant struggle between the safety of drugs in this population and the negative impact of insomnia on quality of life. This activity will provide an opportunity to participate in a complimentary live or home study continuing education webcast to address the challenges of optimally managing insomnia in the elderly.
We all know that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is preferred for the management of insomnia in the elderly, yet 1/3 of all elderly patients take medication to sleep at night. Consultant and senior care pharmacists are often faced with trying to manage insomnia in this population. So, what is the sleep science behind geriatrics and difficulties with insomnia? And how do we optimally manage insomnia in the elderly?
All pharmacists are invited to register for a complimentary 90-minute live webinar (or enduring home study webcast following the live webinars) focusing on challenges in optimally managing insomnia in the elderly. With 3 different dates and times to attend and receive live CE credit, mark your calendars and get registered! Miss the live webinars? No worries! The enduring home study webcast is also available complimentary. Targeted to consultant and community pharmacists, this 90-minute webinar will feature a sleep specialist and board-certified geriatric pharmacist (one of ASCP's own members) teaming up to provide insights into sleep science and conditions commonly associated with insomnia in the elderly while diving deep into the safety concerns and recommendations surrounding medications that treat insomnia. Dr. Roth and Dr. Saffel are ready to take your questions following the live webinars!
