On October 4, 2016, CMS published the final Requirements for Participation in the Federal Register. The final rule rule that makes sweeping changes to the requirements for participation for long-term care facilities. This rule has not had a comprehensive re-write for nearly 25 years. In 2015, ASCP submitted comments on the proposed focusing on the role of consultant pharmacists in LTCFs.
In November, CMS released a redline draft of the State Operations Manual. Much of the language is straight from the final Rules for Participation (sign in and see webinar here). The first document below reflects phase 1 (November 28) implementation in areas where ASCP commented. The second document is the full redline document (new language in red, old in black). In our extensive conversations with CMS, further edits for phases 2 and 3 will be forthcoming.
