To honor Peter P. Lamy, The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) developed the Lamy Memorial Lecture. Information at the Peter Lamy Center (University of Maryland) describes Lamy thus: "A pioneer in geriatric pharmacotherapy, Peter P. Lamy, PhD, ScD dedicated his life to improving drug therapy for the elderly. Dr. Lamy came to the University of Maryland in 1963 where he held dual appointments at the School of Pharmacy and the School of Medicine. In 1978, he established the Center for the Study of Pharmacy and Therapeutics for the Elderly (CSPTE), the first of its kind in a pharmacy school. In 1980, Dr. Lamy published Prescribing for the Elderly, a landmark text and best seller in this emerging field ..."
The Peter P. Lamy Lecture is given as part of an additional general session at the November Annual Meeting of ASCP. It was established by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists as a forum for the presentation of high level research and new developments in the study of aging and related health care issues. This lecture is designed to serve as a remembrance of the late Dr. Lamy, an innovator in the field of geriatrics and the role of the pharmacist in senior care. Areas of presentation would likely include findings such as those published in prestigious, refereed journals or scholarly publications for the lay audience including the following areas:
Likely presenters will include scientific researchers or practitioners researching the fundamentals of the aging process or the mechanisms of diseases of aging; practitioners researching the treatment of diseases of aging or practitioners who have documented the impact of pharmacy in Senior Care.
Nominations are accepted each year. All members may nominate and nominations must be made in writing, and should include the curriculum vitae of the nominee, along with a narrative endorsement describing the qualifications of the candidate. Nominations must be received by ASCP no later than May 31st of each year and can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org .
